CAN2025 is a civic organ with three manuals and pedal, 30 stops, and three sound effect traps. It is something of a curiosity, the first ‘pavilion’ organ in contemporary China. There are some similarities is placement and usage with such organs as the one in the Spreckles Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, San Diego. How far this will be open to the public is, however, unknown.
Heyuan is a hot-springs resort town on the East River (dongjiang), about 140km northeast of Guangzhou (Canton). The organ is located in a tetrahedron-shaped secular ‘Chapel of Sound’, built on a platform adjacent to an artificial lake. The Chunmuyuan resort development is known as ‘Springwoods’ in English, a general translation of chunmuyuan.
