The Pipe Organ in China Project: Updates for August 2026.

Prof. Urrows had the opportunity to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen campus this month, and inspect the two new Rieger pipe organs at the School of Music. The Project is grateful to the School, to Wu Yao of Shanghai Pi Organ Industrial, and Dr. Niu Yu-han, who is teaching organ at the School, for an enjoyable visit. The page for SHZ2025 has been updated. The large 4m concert organ in the Concert Hall is still under installation, and will be added to the Census later this year. 

You never know what is going on it your own backyard. This month we discovered to our astonishment, that a 4/5 stop positive organ had been installed at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts in 2006, replacing the old and oversized Kleuker positive (HKG1980). How HKG2006 could have remained unknown to the Project probably has more to do with the APA than the POCP. The organ was built in England by Robin Jennings. We are working on getting a better photo for the Census page, and will update the entry when we have one.

The Project has also learned that a contract has been let to Fisk for a new organ in St. John’s Cathedral, Hong Kong. This will be the first entirely new cathedral organ erected in the building in nearly a century and a half, and the first functioning pipe organ in the building (with the exception of a recently installed small positive) since before the Second World War.
