Lost in the rush of last month’s updates was the SIXTH ANNIVERSARY of the POCP Website, which went online at the end of June 2018. We are grateful to our friends, correspondents, visitors, and supporters who have added their knowledge to this website over these half-dozen years. Now our next goal is 10 YEARS!
The Project was sorry to learn of the death of Belgian organist, Stanislas Deriemaeker, on 24 July at the age of 92. Mr. Deriemaeker was active in Asian organ culture as early as the 1970s. He played at some of the first Bamboo Organ Festivals at Las Piñas in the Philippines, and also visited Hong Kong several times for master classes at the Roman Catholic cathedral. He played the dedicatory recital on HKG1973, the first pipe organ installed in Hong Kong in the post-WWII period.

At the end of June, Prof. Urrows was invited to give a paper at the University of St. Joseph in Macau, at a conference marking the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Shanghai Catholic Council. His paper, “Advance and Retreat: Music and Mission in the Church in China Before and After 1924”, is now in pre-publication.
