FCW2025 is a 1928 Wurlizter Style H, Op. 1868, now installed at the Gulangyu Organ Arts Centre/Museum. This was one of the instruments that came from the collection given over some years by Mr. Hu Youyi (1936-2013), an Australian-Chinese benefactor who established both the organ museum, and a parallel piano museum on Gulangyu Island off the coast of the city of Xiamen. The organ was originally built for the King’s Cross Theatre in Sydney, Australia, and had been sitting in storage in Xiamen since 2010. The Sydney theater was built in 1916, closed in 1963, and was demolished in 1966.
The restoration and installation of the organ, by Shanghai Pi Organ Industrial working with Australian organ builder Ian Wakeley, was completed in February 2025 (see What’s New January 2023 for more details.) The organ has the standard two manuals and pedal, and the following stop specification, with many of the ranks extended up and down in unit organ fashion (these are marked with an *):
Tibia clausa* Concert Flute* Diapason* Viol de Orch* (including 2′ stop) Viol Celeste* Clarinet Tuba horn* Trumpet (addition to Style H) Kinura Orchestral Oboe Vox Humana (solo) Vox Humana (main) (addition to Style H) |
The Project is grateful to organist Scott Harrison for the photo of the console, and the specs.
