MAC2025a is an 1870 Walker two-manual and Ped. 13-stop organ, relocated from the UK by F.R. Feenstra orgelrestaurateur, and installed in October 2025 in the Church of St. Lawrence (São Lourenço) in Macau. It was originally built as a residence organ, and later moved to a convent in Cornwall. When the last of the sisters passed away, the organ became available for relocation. It is at present the oldest Western pipe organ in China, including Hong Kong and Macau.
This is a historic installation on several counts. First, there were several Walker organs in China and Hong Kong in the last quarter of the 19 C., and the early 20 C. These were SHA1883, HKG1887, CAN1904, and HKG1911. The return of a Walker organ to China is a major advance in curating pipe organs and offering some sort of diversity of organ styles, which at present is largely lacking, especially in the Hong Kong-Macau area. Although a small instrument, this Walker organ fills the large church nicely, and its tonal palate matches the interior decoration of the 16th C. church, last renovated in the 1880s.
